The Rebounders Basketball League for children is a church based Basketball organization that aims to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to learn and play basketball while incorporating Christian values and teachings.
The league is open to children of all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced players, and is focused on promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth both on and off the court.
Each game begins with a prayer and a brief devotional, where players are encouraged to reflect on how they can apply biblical principles to their game play and interactions with their teammates and opponents.
Coaches and volunteers in the league are committed to providing positive reinforcement, encouragement, and mentorship to all participants, helping them develop their basketball skills while also nurturing their spiritual and moral development.
The league also hosts Summer Basketball Camps and outreach events, where players can give back to their community and practice the values of compassion, generosity, and service that are central to the Christian faith.
Overall, the Riverchase Rebounders Basketball League for children seeks to create a supportive and uplifting environment where young athletes can grow both as basketball players and as individuals with a strong foundation in their faith.
It’s becoming a summer tradition for Coach Paul Brown to host week long basketball camps at Partner Churches throughout the the Over the Mountain Area.” Coach Brown’s Summer Basketball Camps at Green Valley Church and Riverchase United Methodist Church will be held throughout the Summer of 2024.
Brown’s experience includes coaching at the college level for 17 years, including two National Championships as an assistant at Birmingham- Southern College. He also led the Men’s National Team of Luxembourg to a Bronze Medal in the Olympics of Small Countries. Most recently he has turned his attention teaching younger players the valuable fundamentals needed to be successful at a higher level. “It was exciting to see High School teams play this year and know that I had the opportunity to coach/teach many of the players at some point in their career” says Brown. “I’ve directed basketball camps at every position I’ve held in my coaching career (30 years) and enjoy working with younger players.” Brown has become increasingly in demand for holiday and summer basketball camps for boys and girls ages 5 to 12. “Coach Brown’s camps welcome a gym full of kids for camps each summer,” explains Dawn Corley, former Director of the Recreation Ministry at Green Valley . “Our summer activities offer a wide range of opportunities for children to experience and develop their God given talents. Coach Brown’s basketball camps are designed to nurture physical activity, increase skill level, make friends and just have fun!”
Brown deliberately decided to run his camps in a church setting. “We have partnered with churches to offer a safe, positive and caring atmosphere in which to teach children.” The takeaway from the camps is particularly appreciated by both parents and campers. “Many of the drills we do at camp are ones that the child can practice at home, “says Brown adding “ My philosophy for our camps is to teach fundamentals and skills in a positive environment and believe it is important to instill confidence and understanding of the game of basketball in each child. “Brown emphasizes to parents that in choosing any camp it’s important to understand the camp’s philosophy and make sure it reflects the values and beliefs you are teaching at home.
